About Heritage Horse
The Friesian Heritage Horse & Sporthorse
International was established by many of the same dedicated people
who, for numerous years worked to build and operated one
of the most successful Friesian crossbred registries of today. These
people are sincerely devoted to promoting horses of Friesian
heritage in a manner that aims to secure the value of these
wonderful horses now and into the future. By offering similar and
improved programs, governed by similar philosophies, Friesian
Heritage Horse & Sporthorse International will continue to serve
the people who have believed in and supported us in the past, and
openly invites newcomers to join. We feel that we have established a
registry with integrity, pride and without prejudice. It was
designed to be inclusive and not exclusive, yet we are
dedicated to preserving quality and promoting accomplishment. The
registry we have created is one that you can be proud to be a part
of!
The individuals who
launched the Friesian Heritage Horse & Sporthorse International
introduced the inspection program that they designed in 2006.
In 2007 they expanded their inspection tour ten-fold, serving owners and their
horses throughout the United States. We have plans to
continue the inspection tours because we believe inspections are an
invaluable tool to offer to our members. Inspections can aid
breeders in ensuring the value and quality of our bloodlines and
provide a wonderful means for perspective buyers to assist in
determining the quality and suitability of these horses.
In the statement that follows we are
in no way attempting to place blame on any one person. The people
involved all had to make some very difficult decisions - the full
impact of these various decisions remains yet to be seen. We
hope by posting this information, for all to read, that we will
foster a better understanding of why we formed the Friesian Heritage
Horse & Sporthorse International.
In the early years of the
registry, that we previously volunteered for, the original owner,
who started the Registry, eventually brought a partner on board who
took over operations of the registry. For years, this new
co-owner, with the support of a handful of volunteers, proceeded to
aggressively market and expand the Registry forward. With our
support, the new co-owner built the Registry by expanding the number of
registered horses 800 percent. In 2007 negotiations began between
the two co-owners of the registry.
These negotiation attempts were made with the intention of
restructuring the registry. The goal was to distribute the growing
workload of the Registry between more people and secure the future
of the registry through a multi-owner structure. These negotiations
continued into early 2008 and eventually failed. The registry was
then returned to the original owner. Currently, the registry has a
sole owner, who, during negotiations, indicated to us that the
registry might be restructured at some point in the future.
Some of the people, with over five
years of volunteer work into the registry, felt that enough time had
passed for those negotiations to have been competed and that the
appropriate time to move the registry forward was immediately. Feeling that the future and direction of the registry was suspended
and unclear, the volunteers decided to implement the Friesian Heritage Horse & Sporthorse
International and redirect their efforts into this fresh
organization that will ensure continued expansion for the value and
integrity of horses of Friesian heritage.
We plan to establish a comprehensive
database for better communications between our members and the
governing body of this registry. We plan to continue to have an
inspection program and we have developed an awards
program as well. As our breed evolves, we will provide papers that
have integrity and value by implementing DNA testing, and HYPP
testing where necessary, and by initiating programs that promote and award quality.
With our years of experience, the
governing body of this registry is aware of the structure,
technology and member services necessary to keep a registry running
smoothly and moving forward with integrity. Although this is a newer
organization, we feel that growing pains with this registry will be
minimal, as we have many years of past experience. It is our hope
that you will continue to support us and allow us to provide you
with another outstanding registry.
