DNA & Hair samples

Heritage Horse International is now requiring that every horse we register submit a hair sample.

There is NO FEE as this sample will simply be placed in your horses file.

This sample then becomes the property of HH.

Submitting this sample, DOES NOT  mean your horse is DNA tested.

On our registration certificate there is a space for DNA parent verification.

If that space says: Not on file-It means that the owner of the horse has not had the horse DNA tested.

If that space says: DNA on file-It means that this particular horse has been DNA typed.

If the space says: DNA on file v- It means the horse named on the certificate has been

DNA typed and that DNA has been compared to its Friesian heritage sire and has been matched.

If the space says: DNA on file m- It means the horse named on the certificate has been

DNA typed and that DNA has been compared to its Friesian heritage dam and has been matched.

If the space says: DNA on file vm- It means the horse named on the certificate has been

DNA typed and that DNA has been compared to its Friesian heritage sire & dam and has been matched.

DNA is not require for sires or dams with out Friesian heritage.

However, you may have any horse DNA tested through our registry at our prices if you have a horse registered with us.

The results will be emailed to you. So you must have a current email address.

How to Collect and send a hair sample

Take a plain white letter sized envelope or smaller. (no security envelopes)

Write the horses registered name on the outside of the envelope.

Take the envelope with you and pull 20-30 hairs from the horses mane by the roots.

For young foals, hair from the tail is preferred.

The hair must have root bulbs, so DO NOT cut the hairs from your horse

Pulling hair is really easy with a pair of pliers. Roll or twist the 20 or 30 hairs between your fingers.

Place the pliers fairly close to the horses skin.

Squeeze the pliers tightly and pull straight out, then put the hairs right into the envelope.

Put these hairs in the envelope and send them along with your filled out registration form.

Only one sample per envelope!
